Broker’s Comments

Presenting a rare opportunity to own a piece of sailing history – the 1952 Concordia Yawl PRAXILLA (Hull #10). This 39’10” masterpiece of nautical design and craftsmanship represents the golden age of wooden boat building, combining timeless elegance with exceptional sailing performance.

Designed by Raymond Hunt for the Concordia Company and built by the renowned Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard in Germany, PRAXILLA showcases the hallmark features that made Concordia Yawls legendary. Her African mahogany planking over steam-bent white oak frames speaks to the uncompromising quality of her construction. The spoon bow, graceful sheer, and classic yawl rig create a profile that turns heads in any harbour.

Below decks, PRAXILLA’s interior exudes warmth and character. Varnished raised panel bulkheads with locust trim, a white painted overhead, and teak cabin sole create an inviting atmosphere. The layout includes a main and forward cabin with sleeping accommodation for up to 4 people. Combined with a functional galley, head, and ample storage, PRAXILLA is ready to take you on your next adventure.

On deck, the deep cockpit and sturdy dodger provide a cosy and well-protected sailing experience in all conditions. The canvas-covered main deck and Dynel (fiberglass) covered house top maintain the yacht’s traditional appearance, while providing durability. Bronze deck hardware and the iconic butterfly skylight over the saloon further enhance her classic appeal.

PRAXILLA’s rig, with its hollow wooden spars and efficient sail plan, delivers impressive performance in a wide range of conditions. Whether day sailing or offshore cruising, she offers a balanced and sea-kindly ride that has made Concordia Yawls favourites among discerning sailors for generations.

PRAXILLA recently celebrated her 70th birthday and is in amazing condition for her age. For the past 30 years PRAXILLA has been lovingly maintained by the current owner who has made many upgrades and ensured she remained in excellent condition.

Recent upgrades include:

  • New rudder in 2017 (built by Concordia and installed by Pilot’s Point).
  • Dynel covered house top.
  • Hull sanded and painted annually.
  • Varnish done every year.
  • New engine installed in 2012.
  • New exhaust system installed in 2021.

Owner’s Comments

I’ve owned PRAXILLA, Concordia Yawl #10, built in 1952, for 30 years. As a young sailor racing in Marblehead MA in the late 70s, my captain’s father owned a beautiful bright hulled Concordia Yawl. We would pass it every weekend, and I promised myself that some day I would own one. That dream came true in 1995 when I purchased PRAXILLA.

The Concordia Yawl has to be sailed to be believed. Super easy to sail, the yawl rig provides a variety of sail configurations that match every sailing condition, making the boat easy to singlehand in most all conditions. The hull shape, the sheer, its pretty little transom, and large overhangs make for a stunning picture in any harbour. I can’t cruise PRAXILLA anywhere without a steady stream of people coming by to ask questions about the boat and request to come aboard. Down below is not roomy but it’s perfect. Golden wood panelling that glows by the light of a kerosine lamp or cabin lights. Comfortable Concordia berths that virtually hug you to sleep and fold effortlessly out of the way.

But, after 30 years, and as I approach my mid-seventies, it’s time to give someone else a chance to enjoy what no plastic boat can provide; effortless sailing, no pounding, and an exhilarating experience and the beauty of a bygone age. The day the boat leaves my custodianship will certainly be sad, but I will be rest assured that the new owner will be welcomed into a Concordia sailing fraternity of owners who simply love these boats and a sailing community that is constantly fascinated by them.
